ciao two thousand and twelve.......

And another one bites the dust.
Three hundred and sixty four days have passed and in less then twenty fours hours we'll be saying  goodbye to 2012 and welcoming in 2013.
And what a year it's been. The Kirby Bee kicked off for one! And through that I was lucky enough to discover some amazing fashion bloggers who I very much enjoying visiting. And I was equally lucky to have some of you fine folk stop by here and say hello, thank you kindly.
In a little homage to 2012 The Kirby Bee way I've collected a few favourites from this past year.

Around this time of year talk generally turns to new years resolutions, while I'm all for change, I just can't see the sense in waiting for this one supposedly magical night of the year. Are there little NYE fairies that will sprinkle special life changing resolution dust on you to make your decisions stick? And if so will this magic dust stain the vintage blazer I'm considering wearing? Important questions. Especially the one about the blazer!

Anyway I'd like to wish you all a very happy New Years Eve, and a wonderfully amazing 2013!!

See you next year!

(Sorry, couldn't help it, it's my most favourite and lamest NYE joke!)

outfit: white blazer........

Wow! So Christmas huh?
Time flies when you're having fun, and also when you're working like crazy. The joys of working in retail during Christmas.
I hope Santa visited you all and you got to spend lots of time with your loved ones. And that you ate way too much, drank plenty and laughed lots. I know I did!
The white blazer is a recent ebay find, vintage Cue. I've been looking for one for a little while now, and as luck would have it stumbled upon this perfect specimen. I'm pretending it was a Christmas present to myself. Paired it with my custom jeans, an old H&M singlet, my trusty Havianas and the accessory of the day, the Santa hat!

this just in: cue.......

Remember when I said I'd be splurging a little this holiday season because I wouldn't be heading overseas anywhere. Well this my first splurge. You may remember this post.
Well I happened past Cue in Myer just the other day, alright that might not be completely accurate. When I say 'happened past' I mean I went directly there with the express intention of purchasing this jacket. It was the last one there and it was my size, call it luck, call it destiny, call it a crazy twist of fate. Call it anything you like. I'm in some serious fashion love right now. I've already shot some pics featuring this gorgeous thing, can't wait to post them!

currently crushing: flared denim........

As a child of the eighties my nostalgic fashion self should be chasing power shoulders, neon everything and stonewash, and don't get me wrong I'm digging all that, but I've always been drawn to the very cool slightly bohemian seventies. More specifically the exaggerated high waisted flares so ubiquitous at the time.
I used to own the most amazing pair of flares, well I thought they were amazing ten years ago (holy shit that's terrifying, I can wax lyrical about a fashion history that old!) anyway my wardrobe is currently void of any real flares at the moment, save an old bootcut pair of Lee Riders. But I don't count them, bootcut certainly does not equal flare, at least in my slightly denim obsessed world.

You're probably aware of the aptly named Stevie jean by Elizabeth and James, see here and here. Cool yeah? Well I decided to do some investigating, just call me a trend sleuth, Kirby 'Sherlock Holmes' Bee at your service and I came up with some more very flarey options. I realise flarey isn't a word, but we've established I'm not adverse to making up the odd word where it serves my purpose, so it's totally staying.

Anyway to the flares!

Now for the round up. Starting from top left we have Theyskens Theory's Pinhas, loving the wash of these. Next up is some super wide flares from Polo Ralph Lauren, a little Love Story from J Brand and the Wilder by Mother Denim. Stepping it up a notch, as always, is Stella McCartney with the white organic cotton, no words. Missoni gets in on the action, just a little in love with the sharp creases. MiH rocks the velvet flare, Levis bring it in caramel and finally ASOS with their perfectly named Super Sexy Flare.

Now the hard part, which ones?? Your thoughts??

pow pow pow.......

Remember this post. Well I didn't manage to score myself any Phillip Lim goodness so I decided I'd do the next best thing and make it myself. Whipped up a grey tee, added some very cool patchwork leather sleeves and stitched on a POW and we're good to go. If you are following me on Instagram (@thekirbybee) you would have caught a snippet of this little pow a couple of weeks ago. Paired it today with some coral coloured skinnies, black skull flats and my glorious new Tony Bianco sunnies, that I WON in an instagram competition. Love them, love my pow, everything's great. Doesn't hurt that the sun was totally rocking it's shit today.

Decided to play around with the colour in these pics, dropped the vibrancy right down and it really makes the colour of the denim pop. Quite pleased with the result!
Can you believe Christmas is so close, only a week and a half to go! Despite how crazy it can get I still love this time of year. Family and friends, lots of yummy food and that awesome feeling you get when you get someone just the right gift, can't beat that!

Hope you're having a great week!

this just in: diesel rose gold.......

Good things come to those who wait, or so the saying goes.

And while I'm still waiting for these Balmain leather pants and these Acne boots, it appears I've waited a sufficient amount of time because these sweet little things landed in my lap last week. When I say sweet, I obviously mean kick ass rose gold studded awesomeness, but you knew that right. When I first spotted these loafers I fell hard, and despite the months that have passed by, my lust never wavered. (I say lust, because surely I cannot be in love with them until I've actually met them......or can I?) So when I was wandering through Wittner's online store recently and happened to stumble upon them, and on sale, I just knew it was meant to be. I clicked add to cart quicker then you could say 'Holy cow Batman, they be crazy cheap', or something along those lines.

And now here they are, currently perched quite comfortably on the ever growing stack of shoe boxes at the end of my bed. That way they're the last thing I see before I go to sleep and the first thing I see when I wake up.
Wow, it must be love!

floral + denim........

Snapped these shots last week just before a family birthday dinner. It was a warm night so what's a girl to do but throw on her cut off denim shorts and trusty Havianas, which is exactly what I did. Added the floral top to class it up a notch, it was dinner after all. These shorts are so ancient, they were originally jeans but as is often the case I took to them with my trusty scissors and hacked them up.  Spent the whole afternoon today prepping for the weekend, I'm off to the Meredith Music Festival.
Three days of sun (hopefully), seriously cool tunes, yummy food and awesome peeps. Can't wait!
Hope you have a great weekend.

december streetstyle faves.......

Just a couple of the streetstyle shops inspiring me this month. Time to get some vintage sport tees and a white oversized blazer in my wardrobe. Had to throw in the pic of the shoes, I'm just a little enamoured, they are simply stunning. Anyone know who they are by?

starting to look a lot like christmas........

The craziness that is Christmas is officially here,
I say officially because it's not officially here until December 1st in my book,
and as that was yesterday we are officially official.
And that is too many officials in one blog post. I'll stop now, promise.
Anyway back to the moral of the story, to get all corny and sweet on you, it's starting to look a lot like Christmas!
I've managed to wrap up most of my present shopping, I mean that both figuratively and literally, and I'm a little excited with that. However there is always time for one more present, whether it be for someone special or maybe just a little selfie, you know the presents you buy for yourself just because.
So I've scoured the www's and come up with a few very cool things that could still wing their way to you yet.

So in no particular order we have The Trench Book by Nick Foulkes
an excellent addition to any coffee table, a very mod Citrus and Grey Bloc Cube ring
something for the music lovers, a Sergeant Pepper Clock
A brilliant burgundy Rag & Bone wool felt fedora
Super cool backpack to stash all of your goodies in 1&20 Blackbirds Aztec backpack
Who doesn't love a silver skull? Silver skull candle
Or a green dinosaur? Mr Rex wall hook
Some neutral wedges to get you through the silly season Tessa III by Senso
For all the writers an Ostrich feather pen by Maison Martin Margiela by L'ATELIER d'exercices
And wrapping it all up a
Sonia by Sonia Rykiel crystal embellished collar.

Hope you're enjoying the start of the festive season wherever you are.

stripes and denim........

Took these shots a few days ago when the sun was out and it was certainly warm enough to be rocking a dress, but as I spent most of the day holed up in my sewing room completing a few projects I needed the denim shirt to keep the goosebumps at bay. Today being the first of December is officially the start of the Australian summer, sunny days and warm lazy nights abound. And if that's not exciting enough it's also only a few short weeks til Christmas, my absolute favourite time of year. Despite that, I do try to refrain from getting too into the spirit until December starts. I feel getting too festive too early would be a slippery slope, pretty soon I'd be cracking out the fairy lights and Santa Claus earrings in the middle of June, and nobody likes a crazy Christmas head.
